The Court of Appeal, Abuja Division, has ruled in favor of Philip Shaibu, affirming his position as Edo State Deputy Governor.

The appellate court upheld the earlier Federal High Court ruling, nullifying Shaibu’s impeachment and ordering his reinstatement. This decision follows the controversial impeachment on April 8 by the Edo State House of Assembly.

The Court of Appeal warned that any person parading themselves as Deputy Governor aside from Shaibu would face legal consequences.

The court set aside Omobayo Godwins’ appointment as Shaibu’s replacement, citing irregularities. Justice James Omotosho’s earlier ruling emphasized that the impeachment process did not follow due process.

The court directed the Inspector General of Police to provide Shaibu with necessary security to resume his duties as Deputy Governor. This ruling has intensified political tensions within Edo State, marked by internal conflicts within the state’s leadership.
