The Presidency has unveiled a new Airbus A330 presidential jet, replacing the outdated Boeing B737-700.
The new jet aims to reduce maintenance and fuel costs, saving millions of dollars annually. This move follows a parliamentary investigation into the old plane’s safety record and cost efficiency.
According to Bayo Onanuga, Special Adviser to the President, the new jet addresses concerns raised by the Nigerian Senate’s security and intelligence committee.
The committee recommended replacing the ageing aircraft to minimize downtime and operational expenses. This upgrade ensures the presidential fleet’s reliability and efficiency.
President Tinubu has already utilized the new jet, departing for France on his fourth trip to the European country.
The Airbus A330 business jet conveying the President and his aides took off from Abuja’s Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport. As Ajuri Ngelale, Tinubu’s spokesperson, stated, “The President’s trip aims to strengthen diplomatic ties and foster cooperation”.
