The West African Examinations Council (WAEC) is set to release the results of the May/June 2024 West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) today, Monday, August 12, 2024.

The release comes 45 days after the last paper was conducted, in line with WAEC’s tradition. Out of 1.8 million students who sat for the exam, 902,328 (49.73%) are males, while 912,016 (50.27%) are females.

Minister Condemns Viral Video of Lady Filming her Mentally ill Mother

The Minister of Women Affairs, Uju Kennedy-Ohanenye, has condemned a viral video showing a lady filming her mentally unstable mother.

The minister described the video as disturbing, unacceptable, and potentially harmful. She emphasized that exploiting vulnerable individuals, especially those struggling with mental health issues, goes against the values of empathy and care.

The video, which has sparked outrage online, shows the lady engaging with her visibly unwell and unkempt mother. The lady claims her mother became mentally ill after her father’s death and has been living on the streets. Despite this, the lady visits her mother periodically with food and money.

Kennedy-Ohanenye urged the public to demonstrate compassion and understanding towards individuals suffering from mental health issues. She stated, “Mental illness demands compassion, understanding, and support – not ridicule or exploitation”.

The ministry is seeking information on the mother’s identity and condition to ensure proper care and protection.
