Kidnappers Demand Ransom for Two Chinese Nationals in Ogun

Two Chinese expatriates, Chen Wenguang and Liang Ding, have been abducted in Ogun State. According to a police source, the incident occurred on Sunday around 1:45 pm when the duo left their company, Good One Carton Company, to visit friends in Kémta/Abule-Owu area along Onigbedu Road.

The source revealed that Wenguang and Ding failed to inform security personnel, including the police and military, or the company about their trip. “They mentioned to a few people that they were heading to Kémta Village, about a kilometre away from the company, to visit some friends.”

Omolola Odutola, spokesperson for the state command, confirmed the incident and stated that the kidnappers have demanded a ransom for their release. “The company’s security supervisor reported that one of the expatriates called to inform him that Wenguang and Ding had been kidnapped and that the kidnappers were demanding money in exchange for their release.”

A search operation was conducted by operatives from the Ewekoro Division, assisted by local vigilantes, military personnel, and other security groups, but the duo was not found. Efforts to secure their release are ongoing.

This incident follows a similar abduction of three Indian nationals on May 3, 2024, on the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway, who were later released after being held captive for three days.

Minister Condemns Viral Video of Lady Filming her Mentally ill Mother

The Minister of Women Affairs, Uju Kennedy-Ohanenye, has condemned a viral video showing a lady filming her mentally unstable mother.

The minister described the video as disturbing, unacceptable, and potentially harmful. She emphasized that exploiting vulnerable individuals, especially those struggling with mental health issues, goes against the values of empathy and care.

The video, which has sparked outrage online, shows the lady engaging with her visibly unwell and unkempt mother. The lady claims her mother became mentally ill after her father’s death and has been living on the streets. Despite this, the lady visits her mother periodically with food and money.

Kennedy-Ohanenye urged the public to demonstrate compassion and understanding towards individuals suffering from mental health issues. She stated, “Mental illness demands compassion, understanding, and support – not ridicule or exploitation”.

The ministry is seeking information on the mother’s identity and condition to ensure proper care and protection.
