The fees payable by undergraduate students of the University of Lagos UNILAG, Akoka, Lagos, have been increased by the institution’s management.

Previously ,students of the institution paid N19,000.

However, the management has now fixed new fees for different categories of students.

Below are the new fees payable by the students

Students studying medicine – N190,250
Courses requiring laboratory and studio – N140, 250.
Programmes that do not require lab and studio – N100, 750.
This was contained in a statement dated July 20, 2023, by the Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Universities (SSANU) UNILAG branch following a meeting with the top management staff.

According to SSANU, the Vice Chancellor, Prof. Folasade Ogunsola, met with representatives of the three non-academic staff unions on Thursday, July 20, to discuss issues concerning members’ welfare.

The union said:

“During the meeting, the proposed fees for undergraduate students of UNILAG were disclosed. Students without lab and studio use will pay N100,750, those with lab use will pay N140,250, and college of medicine would pay N190,250.”

Meanwhile, a SSANU representative at the meeting, Rasaki Yusuf, asked for a rebate for staff members with children in the university.

But the VC said the new charges were set nationally and could not be modified for specific categories of students.

Ogunsola, however, gave the option of staff paying in instalments but with a condition to pay up one month before final exams.

Trump Faces Heat Over Medical Records

Published

on

Kamala Harris recently shared her medical records, which verify that she is in “excellent health” and fully prepared to step into the role of president if needed.

Taking the opportunity to criticize her Republican rival, Harris pointed to Donald Trump’s refusal to make his own health records public.

She claimed that Trump “doesn’t want the American people to know if he’s fit for the presidency.”

Although Trump’s team has yet to release his records, they cited his physician, who assured the public that Trump is in “perfect and excellent health.”

Additionally, they highlighted his “extremely busy and active campaign schedule” as evidence of his vitality, suggesting he has more energy than Harris.

This back-and-forth came after the White House released a detailed report confirming Harris’s “physical and mental resiliency” for the presidency.

Dr. Joshua Simmons, who has treated Harris for over three years, described her most recent exam as “unremarkable,” noting that she maintains a healthy lifestyle.

He did mention her family history of colon cancer and her successful management of allergies, praising her commitment to preventative measures like routine colonoscopies and mammograms.

After making the records public, a spokesperson for Harris’s campaign took to social media, challenging Trump to disclose his medical history as well.

At a campaign stop in North Carolina, Harris questioned Trump’s mental sharpness, remarking on his tendency to “often go off on tangents.”

Concerns over Trump’s age and mental fitness have been growing among Democrats, especially given that Republicans previously attacked President Joe Biden for similar reasons before his departure from the race.

If Trump is re-elected in November, he would end his second term at the age of 82, the same age Biden will be when he leaves office in January.

In response to the mounting pressure from Harris’s camp, Trump’s communications director, Steven Cheung, pointed out that Trump had “voluntarily released” health updates from his doctor, including a report following the attempted assassination in Butler, Pennsylvania, earlier this year.

Cheung reaffirmed that all reports show Trump is in “perfect and excellent health,” referencing a 2023 letter which confirmed that both his physical and cognitive exams were “exceptional.”

Though national polls show Harris with a slight edge, the race remains highly competitive in key swing states.
