Yoruba Fuji artist, Alhaji Taye Adebisi, widely known as Taye Currency, has publicly recognized his fellow Fuji musician, Wasiu Alabi, aka Pasuma, as his superior, while referring to Saheed Osupa as a peer.
In an interview with Akede Ariya last Thursday, Taye Currency opened up about his relationship with both musicians and shared how he met Pasuma.
He clarified that, despite his admiration for Pasuma, he had not learned Fuji music directly from him. Instead, he emphasized his deep respect for Pasuma’s humility, which he found striking.
Taye also clarified that there was no ongoing conflict between him and Pasuma, describing their previous disagreements as misunderstandings rather than anything serious.
“I met Pasuma in 1993, and since then we have been together. I didn’t learn Fuji music from him, I just love him because he is a humble person.
It is not that I’m disrespecting him or anything. I wasn’t his drummer or backup singer. He was in Lagos, and I was in Ibadan.
So, the controversy between us was caused by fan reactions. We are not fighting. Those who are insulting us are berating and disrespecting us.
“Anybody who has known each other for 30 years, even as a boss and a worker, is liable to have misunderstandings. We are not the first to have a misunderstanding, but it is our fans who are prolonging it.
Pasuma is not a troublesome person, nor am I. So I have asked people the questions repeatedly; how did I insult Pasuma, what did I insult Pasuma with?”
Taye further explained his view on the Fuji music scene, stating that Obesere, a prominent figure in the genre, is like a brother to him, while Saheed Osupa is simply a colleague he knows as a fellow singer.
However, Taye emphasized that Pasuma holds a special place in his life, acknowledging him as a boss.
“Obesere, who is now a leader for us in Fuji music, is my brother. Saheed Osupa, on the other hand, is my colleague; I know him just as a singer. But Pasuma is my boss because I admit it,” he added.
In October 2024, Taye made headlines when he criticized the fans who referred to Pasuma as his ‘father’ in the industry.
He explained that Pasuma was more like an elder brother to him and clarified that he could never view him as a father figure.
This sparked an online debate, with Pasuma’s supporters expressing their displeasure with Taye’s words.
In a surprising turn of events, when Taye Currency and Pasuma met in Mecca during the 2025 Umrah pilgrimage, Taye expressed regret over his previous comments.
In a viral video from the encounter, Taye apologized to Pasuma and anyone who felt hurt by his remarks, clarifying that his words had been misinterpreted. He reiterated his respect for Pasuma and reaffirmed his admiration for him as a superior in the industry.
He concluded by assuring everyone that he had never intended to insult Pasuma, but instead, he held him in high regard.
